A similar frock in the 1926 Butterick pattern catalog is described as, "A Surplice Closing On-Piece Frock." Another similar is described as a "One-Piece Wrap Around Frock." Suggested fabrics are: "crepe satin, printed crepe de Chine, silk and cotton crepe, light weight wools, taffeta, plaid taffeta, radium and shantung."
Popular colors were, ". . . wine, Bordeaux, taupe, nut and seal brown, navy and old blue, prune, mulberry and plum and a peculiar shade of dark gray, called smoke fox."
