The cap pattern is taken from an original full size pattern, published in Der Bazar, March 1860, as well as in La Mode Illustree the same month. The Bazar pattern had some construction instructions, which have been translated and annotated.
This is a Negligee Cap, which may also be called a Breakfast Cap, a House Cap, a Morning Cap, or an Undress Cap, depending on the author and/or original publication. Such caps were worn in the house when one did not expect to entertain.
The cap should be made from fine cotton net, trimmed with cotton lace and silk ribbon.
