Misses' Extra Small to Extra Large
This beautiful and dramatic Gown is an example of a popular silhouette from the early 1920's. The original, now in the Costurme Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, was designed by Maria Monaci Gallenga (1880-1944), whose creations were enormously influenced by the designs of the great Mariano Fortuny. The body of this Gown is composed of two rectangular pieces with the back extended to form a train (you can eliminate the train and make an even, ankle-length hem). The long, fitted sleeves are held together with beads and cord loops, which are also used to pull the dress in at the hips, both front and back. Blanket stitching around the deges provides a decorative finish and prevents the lining from rolling to the outside.
Suggested Fabrics: soft fabrics with draped such as silk, velvet, crepe or challis.
